The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders

Rotary is the oldest service organization founded in Chicago in 1905 by a small group of professional business men. As Rotary grew, its mission expanded beyond serving club members’ professional and social interests. Rotarians began pooling their resources and contributing their talents to help serve communities in need. The organization's dedication to this ideal is best expressed in its motto: Service Above Self.

With an emphasis on serving the community, membership today has grown to 1.2 million Rotarians belonging to 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. As a Rotarian, you will join the ranks of prominent contributors such as humanitarian, Albert Schweitzer, astronaut, Buzz Aldrin and the man who put his journey in motion, Orville Wright. Today, you might find yourself sitting in a meeting next to the governor, mayor, councilman or woman, school superintendent, police chief, veterinarian, doctor, football coach, hospital administrator, state senator or representative, college president, radio or TV personality, minister, rabbi, insurance agent, real estate broker or a retiree from these areas and more. Rotary is a woman making connections to help her community. Rotary is a man sharing skills to coordinate an international water project. Rotary is your colleague, neighbor or friend. Rotary is about that part of you that wants to give back to the community whether it be local or global.

Rotary is in your community; your town; your county but also in countries all over the world. A locator is provided to help you find a club in District 6910. While most Rotarians belong to a club near their work or home, you can now belong to the virtual world of Rotary. Online e-clubs are designed to help those who travel or whose schedules don’t permit attendance at a conventional meeting.

Rotary can open doors you never thought existed. You will meet the decision makers in your community and even around the world if you choose to reach out through service projects and a dedication to helping others. Meetings are weekly usually with a meal and always with an interesting program on current topics relevant to your community and beyond. Rotary can help build lifelong friendships around the world.
